About This Writer

Long Winded is, of course, the L. Long of which we speak.

Some things about her:

  • She loves to mess around with words, and dabbles in some of the finer art forms, like puns
  • She likes to express herself in a way that elicits a smile!
  • Except for words and grammar which she has invented herself, she's a stickler for good grammar
  • "If you're going to say it, say it right!"
  • Favorite author? (One of many) —Mark Twain
  • Other languages? (Jack of all trades, master of none) —Very Low Austrian German, A smidgen of High German, Un peu de French, Ceva Romanian, and o leaca Moldovan. Even less Russian.

Thoughts on the English Language:

There's nothing like the English language. I love rolling it around on my tongue, savoring its delicate nuances. I love playing with it, like a magician, whipping something out of a hat—a marvelous expression or surprising word, and then another and another, each one different. It flows easily, like a babbling brook, or like downhill skiing...swish, swish, so easily, a few contours around moguls, carving just the right path to the destination. No stumbling or groping, whittling out any word sculpture, molding any form, painting any picture with a few precise strokes or with lavish detail. Praise, berate, admonish or describe, all with the ease of a seasoned master.
